Help Guide to Applying for and Renewing CSCS Cards

Some of the firms that I consult for have asked if I could put together a simplified guide to all things CSCS.  CSCS as you may be aware is the competency card scheme for construction in the UK.  Most commercial projects will require a carded workforce to tender for projects or to get on site.

Before you can apply for a card or renew it, you will need to meet CSCS’s requirements:

Green CSCS Card for Laborers

From July 2014, CSCS require the following to apply for or renew a green CSCS Card for Laborers: 

1. Pass the Health, Safety & Environment touchscreen test, here is the link to make a booking: http://www.cscs.uk.com/cscs-cards/health-and-safety-test 
2. Pass a level 1 health and safety in the construction environment qualification, or an approved equivalent.  Priestman Associates LLP operate such a course: [click here]

Red CSCS Card for Trainees

These are the qualification requirements to apply for a red CSCS Card for Trainees: 

1. Be enrolled upon a level 2 NVQ in a construction occupation. Priestman Associates LLP operate such Specialist Apprenticeship Programme courses: [click here]

Blue CSCS Card for Skilled Workers

These are the qualification requirements to apply for a blue CSCS Card for Skilled Workers:

Gold CSCS Card for Supervisors and Heritage Skills

These are the qualification requirements to apply for a gold CSCS Card for Supervisors and Heritage Workers:

Black CSCS Card for Managers
